Hi Beth! I have a question for you – over the past couple of years, my husband and I have both opened a Chase Sapphire Preferred account. I then switched my account to Chase Sapphire (was going to cancel my card to avoid the yearly fee but they offered just to change it over and waive the fee). I then opened a Chase Ink Plus account. We are planning a trip to Europe this summer and would like to open one more card to take advantage of bonus points for flights/hotels. Do you think we should go for another Ink Plus account? Or do you know if it’s possible for me to apply for another Chase Sapphire Preferred and get the bonus points, even though I’ve had a Preferred account in the past? OR, if we were to go to another bank/cc company, what card would you recommend? Thanks in advance, hope you two are having a wonderful time!

Hey Kelly! Do you know which airline you want to fly or any particular hotels you want to stay in? We flew Lufthansa to Europe and used a combination of United miles (from the Chase United Explorer Plus credit card–should be 55,000 miles for signup) AND Ultimate Rewards points that we transferred directly into United to make up the difference. Another INK card is definitely an option as well if your husband never opened one, but I don’t think they’ll give you the bonus on the Sapphire again if you’ve already received it recently. I would recommend the Starwood Preferred Guest Card from American Express for hotel stays as there are a lot of great options in Europe and the sign-up bonus is at an all-time high 35,000 points right now. I’ll email you a sign up link! We also like the Barclaycard Arrival Plus because it earns 2x points on everything and can be redeemed against any travel purchases as a statement credit.

Awesome! We are not sure on any hotels yet, but the round-trip flight we are looking at is Icelandair, through Chase Ultimate Rewards. We might go for another Ink card, since it’s easy to combine Chase rewards points. I will have to look into the Starwood Preferred, and Barclaycard. Thanks so much!
