Current Hotel Promotions and My Fall Stays Strategy

There were a bunch of great new hotel promotions released lately so if you have upcoming paid hotel nights be sure to register for these promotions to earn some bonus points! I have five work trips in the next six weeks so will be spending plenty of nights in hotels myself. In general here is my strategy for determining which hotels to book:

  1. If there’s a Kimpton, I’ll book there, no questions asked. I’m Inner Circle, I’m obsessed with the brand. With Kimpton you always earn a free night after seven nights. Only one trip to a city with a Kimpton this fall, but when I’m in Dallas in October you can find me at the Hotel Lumen.

I’m a sucker for free booze and cheese and will forgo any bonus points for better promotions to stay at Kimptons.

  1. Next analyze the promotions with the hotel chains that I have status. While earning bonus points and free nights is typically better than the small perks that come with status, if you can get both it’s a win-win. I am a Hyatt Diamond so I’ll start there. My offer was for 5,000 points after 5 nights, and there’s also a 500 point bonus for each mobile booking. I typically take the 1,000 bonus points per stay as the Diamond Amenity, so right there with five stays I’ll get an extra 12,500 Hyatt points on top of my regular stay point earnings. Plus I had an email from the Tulsa Hyatt Regency (one night booked here) for either a bottle of wine or 1,000 bonus points. I will only stay one night per property then switch hotels so each night counts as a stay.
  1. For the remaining nights determine which promotions will give me the most free nights or bonus points. My IHG account was one of the lucky ones with an offer to get a free night after two paid nights, which can be done twice. I booked three nights in Houston but fell one night short. We have friends getting married in Denver this weekend but it’s pretty far from our place so we booked a Holiday Inn Express nearby for $89. This is probably about twice what a cab home would cost, but we’ll get a free breakfast, earn points and of course earn the extra free night, which is good at any IHG in the world.

My Total Earnings:
1 night Kimpton
5 nights Hyatt for 13,500 bonus points
4 nights IHG for 2 free nights anywhere
$89 total cost out of my pocket (gotta love business travel!)

Hotel Promotion Overviews and Registration Links:

Hyatt: June 1 – September 30
Earn 3,000 to 65,000 bonus points depending on your targeted offer.

IHG Accelerate: September 1 – December 31
Offers vary for each member so log in to your account to see your exact promotion. The best offer seems to be two free nights after staying four nights, which is on a lot of new accounts but I was lucky enough to receive it on mine.

Hilton Triple Your Trip: September 1 – December 31
Double points for weekday stays and triple points for weekend stays (Friday through Sunday nights). All properties are participating so this is a pretty decent deal. Register here.

Marriott MegaBonus: September 15, 2015 – January 15, 2016
Offers differ for each member, so log in to your account to see what offer you received. My version was double points after your second stay, which is hardly worth mentioning.

SPG Stay for More: October 1 – December 20
Registration does not open until September 23 but details were just released. You can earn double Starpoints on stays of two or more nights, plus an extra 500 points when stays are three nights or longer.
